Hi Guys, Thought you might be interested in this. Its a project I thought I would try as an attempt to get some nice induction noise without resorting to spending silly money on GruppeM or Eventuri style air intakes.

So it went like this.

1) Buy a second hand air box lid
2) Drill big holes in it with a hole saw
3) Carbon fiber skin it with thin carbon fiber
4) Install and AFE high flow dry filter
5) Keep the inheriant goodness of the factory sealed CAI
5) See how it goes

Now I am a bit of a danger to myself even wrapping Christmas presents so this was a challenge for me as I have never worked with Carbon Fiber before and there are quite a few things I would do differently if I ever do it again.

It was cheap in comparison. I had some fun and it has added some nice intake noise. Sure not as much as an open filter but its clearly audible especially on WOT.

Yes I know this is a Z4 with and S54 but the principle holds for anything with an air box and the Z4 forum is pretty dead. I messed up the final coat so it looks a bit dodge in one corner but I will fix that on the weekend.

Actually next time try the product linked. I had a lovely finish then I followed the instructions on how to finally cut and polish it with the products provided in skin kit and it all went pear shaped. So rather than fiddle about with more epoxy resin coating I had a shot with this.

I messed up damaged the finish on the lid refitting it and tried to patch it with spray in place which was a mistake....

But thanks !!

Yes. Happy with it. If I was going to do it again I would remove much more of the plastic for more noise. Maybe in a few months if I manage to locate another box lid. I am certainly not stripping that lot off again.
