It really isn’t necessary to spend £1,000 on a new module. Secondhand are £30-40 ish. You just need to make sure you get the right one. Including if some wally has previously put the wrong one in.

£1,000 is much better spent on new shocks, beam bushes and decent tyres etc.

Yes I agree and most certainly don't want to spend a grand on a new one. The old one has the right part number for the car according to BMW and there are two options as far as compatible ones. The second hand one that is now on it's way has the same part number (£35 off ebay). So hopefully it will talk to everything and just need recoding if the car it came from had a different airbag setup etc. The only thing my dad hasn't been able to find so far is where there is supposedly a factory splice in the control wiring to the module that he wants to check

Would tend to agree with Robert 1k a lot to spend on a basic 1.9.
The boy i know has a really clean 2.8 and he is really ocd about his car ( likes to keep in first class condition) nothing wrong with that.
So for him second hand part wasn't really his thing so even though new one price was a bit of a sting that's the route that HE opted for personally i would rule out all other avenues before parting that kind of cash to bmw

The wiring workshop manuals may help as they are more than just circuit diagrams.

Yeh, like I said, I wouldn't flinch at Paying a grand if it was a 6 cylinder that I had got for the money I paid, but being a 1.9 it would be putting it into the relms of very top money for one. Not that everything is about money, but £1k is too much to be putting into it really.

I had the same problem when I bought my first zed but it was a 2.0. We couldn't get the airbag module to communicate, the light was lit on the dash but couldn't get an error code because it wouldn't see the module. I matched the part numbers and got a second hand one. As you already have access to the module under the centre console it will be an easy swap. I had to get it coded to the car, something I am sure can be done with INPA. I didn't have access to this at the time and had a local specialist do it. Once coded everything worked fine. Hopefully this is the same issue you have, a working second hand module plus a recode to your car should hopefully clear the issue.

Thanks Dave, fingers crossed that is how this will turn out. The second hand module should arrive start of next week, so will let everyone know what happens!

Hi,
I am in the same situation. My garage (after failing the MOT) said the airbag module was uncommunicable so I sent it to Crash-Data and they said the same thing. They suggested looking on eBay for a secondhand one but nothing there (either 8386192 or 6908892) and none of the car parts online people list any ecu's etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get a new module other than the BMW main dealer?

Checked today and I have both numbers and are known to be good.
Hi Synclare,
That's fantastic. The module that I took out was an 65.77-8386192 so that's the direct replacement.

John,I would delete you’re email from your post and contact Adrian via a PM. It is a world wide forum you’ve put your personal info on.

Tony.

I'm really sorry, hit me if you like but tell me how I can PM Adrian (synclare). Can't see any menu option to do it...
