Hi can any one tell me before I mess with it. On the passenger side of car there is a place that looks like it should have an airbag behind it, but unlike most cars it dose not have airbag written on it. Dose the Z3 have an airbag on this side.
Reason I’m asking is I would like to know if the panel there can be removed as I need to remove it to do a re- trim on the dash, the edge of this has to tuck under this panel on the instructions it also shows this panel removed. Now I don’t want to try and remove said panel and set off airbag, nor get smacked in the face doing it.
Just wondered if anyone had done this.
The inside doesn’t look like this now by the it’s just a picture to show panel I’m on about.

Hope this helps. ( note this is from Bentleys, and shows it as a LHD version, but parts and procedure would be the same.

Just been to look at my car and it has "SRS airbag" moulded into the cover (LHS). Also has an airbag sticker on the passenger side threshold upright. Hadn't really noticed before.:(

Think I will do what Sean-d said and disconnect battery. That is the reason I asked the question, most cars have something written on the top if fitted with passenger airbag. So now I’ve got my partner saying “ I see so if we have an accident you will be ok with your air bag what about me “ I did have a reply about it but thought better not say anything.

Some have the air bag and some don’t.

Any panel that conceals an airbag should be marked SRS. But I guess there is always the possibility on a car that it could have one and someone has fitted a replacement panel without the legend.

The panel is on a tether so it falls downwards rather than into your face when the airbag fires. Otherwise, from memory, I think has no connection to the air bag.

But still sensible enough to disconnect the battery.

Although interestingly enough it’s not the first step. See the Caution box ;)

I have removed the panel over the airbag. It does on set off the airbag. It is tethered with a webbing so that it does not hit the person in the face when it goes off.

To move it, use a trim tool to gently pry it up on the windscreen side. The 2 clips on this side slip out easier.
