When Hurricane Irma blew through she did a lot of damage and as we neared the pan handle we were not to sure what to expect on the coastline. After we left Panama City and headed up to Pensacola as we neared there we decided to go over the causeway bridge onto the outer barrier islands (or Keys as they're sometimes called). We travelled a few miles before seeing a Detour sign meaning the road was probably washed out (we guessed) so did a U-ey and went back the way we came. Here's some of the houses and large Hotels out on the barrier island.

Some repairing and some rebuilding going on.

Tony.

When you look what separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Inter coastal waters it isn't much. But if I lived there I would want to rebuild and continue living there. These big Hotels are literally on the beach of the Gulf and take the full brunt of a Hurricane.

Here we are at the Pier.

From the Pier you can see the inter coastal water and the dunes with walkways built over them onto the Gulf shore. We spotted a group of small Rays chasing food in the shallow water.

This is the Gulf Shore with the big Hotels right on the beach.

In the last one you can see the Gulf on the right of the picture and the inter coastal water on the left and all that stands between them are some sand dunes at about 6 feet high at the best. But what a view to get up to every day?

Tony.

Great photos Tony

Thank you Brian, glad you liked them. Apologies for the quality mate.:)

Tony.

It doesn't look it's best Mike, mainly due to all the sand that was washed ashore over the dunes and into every where it shouldn't be. It looks very much like the Keys down south too, all these barrier islands all over the world will have a similar look I guess. Even where the water couldn't push the sand the wind has blown it well inshore, and it will look better eventually.

Tony.

Thanks for sharing the photos Tony. I guess because you know what it was like before you see all the sand everywhere. Am sure both man and nature will clean it up in time.
Still looks a lovely place though. You can understand what people want to have homes there.
