I wanted to cover my Z3 for winter.
So I attempted to unscrew the aeriel. ?? Should be removable, right ?
Problem is the bit that unscrewed was not the bit I expected, see pic.
Anyway this leaves me with a problem;-
1. New Aeriel, same as the old, that I beleive is expensive ?
2. No aeriel, block up the grommitt hole.
3. Different aeriel ?
know the aeriel is an often discussed problem so which way do I go ?

Also if the wire inside the top is detached has anybody effected a repair as the body/case seems pretty well sealed

When I had a similar problem in the past, with another car that I owned at the time, I went for this option and blocked up the grommitt hole with a rubber plug.

Normally the aeriel should unscrew easily leaving a visible screw thread.

That spring/coil thing in your picture looks to be the inside of the aeriel? Try grabbing it and unscrewing (looking down at it unscrews anti clockwise).

I replaced mine a while ago. Can't remember where I got it. Jusy a cheap universal thing. The thread wasn't the same but it came with little adapters so screwed in just fine.

But I wonder if your aerial was also after market thing that had the wrong thread and somebody glued it in which is maybe why it didn't unscrew tidy.

You can't make it worse. Just grab that spring with with mole grips and turn. If iy snaps off at the thread then you'll find a replacement here on fhe forum.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the link. Certainly not expensive
So I have two cables to hide ?
Not too sure how I do that on a soft top. I'll have to have a look at the possibilities

I have it stood up with some penetrating oil in at the mo' so will try to remove the spring in the next day or so.
Still gives a problem with the broken connection inside the top tho

Other than actually buying the car this is the best bit about owning a Z3
The FORUM is just excellent
There's nothing that somebody, somewhere ain't done before and is willing to share
