Hello chaps.

I have a 2001 3.0 Z3. The radio reception is very poor. I have diagnosed that the aerial amplifier is shot. I have a replacement and need to fit it. In the boot on the left side I have moved the roof hydraulics out of the way and taken the amplifier mount off. The amplifier is now free and will rotate. I can see the top of the amplifier rotating outside the car where the aerial connects. However the amplifier will not pull/unscrew free. Is there a clever trick to removing the amplifier? I don't want to break anything. There doesnt seem to be anything holding it in place now.

I have done a search on the site but can't seem to find anything on this topic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Andy.

If I remember correctly, you need to unscrew the aerial as this clamps the amp assembly to the body.
There are no secret fixings or clever trick.

The bulbous end on the aerial needs to be pushed upwards into the new grommet which should be fitted in the wing first. Some silicon grease or spray on the end will assist it into place, the inside of the grommet is shaped to accept the bulbous end. I also used a long bolt with the same thread as the aerial to use as a guide and something to pull on to get it seated in the grommet. Take care if you break the plastic the aerial is scrap. Also take care with the electrical connection, its live and can short out if it touches the bodywork.
