Advice wanted. Rear wing replace/repair?

Hi,

This is my first post so go easy.

I took the off-side cover sill off my Z3 yesterday as it was getting a bit crunchy, as part of this I completely removed the inner rear wheel arch cover and saw this :-

A big bit of rusty steel fell out too.

Here's a couple more of the inside :-

The outside isn't looking great either :-

So my first question is about the horizontal bit thats missing - is that a seperate panel or part of the rear wing? The picture on the database (http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/Z...n2001/browse/bodywork/outer_panels/#8413374_5) isn't very helpful

Is this worth repairing or should I look at getting a replacement panel? If I go the replacement route I'll need to get it sprayed so its probably worth doing both sides and possibly replacing the sill covers too.

Is local BMW stealer best for panels or is there anywhere that does mail order?

Any advice gladly received...

It looks like the missing bit should be part of the panel to me .
@Synclare @spurs fan in a coupe both break ze's they may be able to advise and have replacements i've tagged them so they should be along to advise

Can imagine the price of a rear wing from BMW to be eye watering.

Much better to get one from a breaker and then properly rust proof before refitting

Hello and welcome from Truro. Personally I'd go the 2nd hand route as these cars generally don't suffer too much from body rot. You might even be able to find the parts ready colour matched.

It's a 2001 2.2i so wide body. Could do with a cover sill too if you have a solid one....

Hello, if Andy can't sort your needs I have an offside wing from a 2001 car, finished in black though. As Andy says that missing plate that fell off yours ties the wing to the inner body. I'm in Leicestershire too. Can paint it if you wish but to be correctly done it needs 'flicking' into the door panel to avoid any disparity in shade. Not good spraying to a shut line as most do.

It's a not an uncommon place to go. My project Titan Silver 2.2 went in the same place. It's definitely scrap. Get secondhand - there are plenty of Titan Silver parts out there so hopefully you won't even need it resprayed.

Only a couple of hours work to swap it.

I've got a couple of wings and sills from someone on ebay, correct paint code and a lot less rusty.

I waxoyled and stone chipped them yesterday so its rear wing off day today and hopefully back toegether again in time for MOT next week.

Anyone know where to get the black clips that hold on the sill trim panel inside the door opening? Managed to muller all but one of them...

When I read threads like this l wonder what's going on underneath mine?!
I'd like to think that since the only water it's ever seen in its 28k is when it gets washed that it's okay?! But you never know so I must have a look.
