help please am looking at 2 z4 2.5 one is 2006 & 6 speed g/box the other is 2005 & a 5 speed g/box the question is this my z3 at 60 mph is very near 3000 rpm what r.p.m.would i get with 6 speed or 5 speed box ? would be grateful for information on this or all things 2.5 z4 related

I have the 2.5 5 speed and at times a sixth gear would be good, the main benefit of just 5 i find if your feeling lazy and just cruising you can leave it in 5th it will pull from below 30 with ease all the way up to naughty speeds. Personally i would go for the six speeder, especially if its the facelift and possibly better kitted out.

Depends if they are both the same Engine. As the N52 Engine came out in 2006 So would be hard to do a true comparison if the 2005 is the M54 and the 2006 is the N52
Lucky Jim - you're best off posting a question on the Z4 forum, they are a friendly bunch over there so I'm sure someone will know the answer and respond.
The 2006 Si model with the later engine is IMHO better than the 2005 (obv its up on power & torque too)

thanks to all that responded im picking a 2006 2.5 6 speed up this pm although its got a roof motor fault ..due to bmw keeping the motor cool by immersing it in water.
remember the facelifts had 2 2.5 engines, one was the 2.5i (177 bhp) and the other 2.5si (215 bhp iirc) both 6 speed! make sure you get the si for more powerrrrrrrrrr
