Advice for dsc issues

A common theme but I couldn’t find a thread with the same fail codes

I’ve periodically had the yellow handbrake and traction control light come on.

It’s gone off on its own eventually but I bought a c110 scanner to see if I could work out what the issue is.

So I get codes 5DF4, 5E19, 5E20 and 5E21

These point to both pressure sensors, which would seem strange that both are faulty, pointing to the dsc unit itself? But I thought if it were the dsc unit itself, the lights wouldn’t go off again?

So I changed both sensors today, hoping I might get lucky but the codes are still there although no lights on the dash!?

Before I look at a refurbed unit, would it be worth changing the wheel speed sensors or is it looking more likely to be the abs pump unit?

Any advice welcomed

Have you looked under the passengers seat?

This is where the module for dsc is prone for failing due to water ingress
Water gets under the carpet unnoticed and damaged the unit.
Floors on zeds can get really wet underneath and show little signs on top.

thanks for the reply. No I hadn’t looked there but will do later.

Is it an easy / cheap part to replace do you know?

And is it a “seat out” job? Presume the first aid kit will need to come out

Ok thanks. Defo used then!

This would make more sense than the pump where the sensors are, as mechanically the car drives no different with the dash lights on.

Is there any way of knowing for sure before replacement? I’m guessing if it corroded, it needs changing?

If there is leak into the car the water collects under the carpet just where the sensor is. So if your carpets are wet underneath the sensor is liable to have failed. There is s thick layer of foam under the carpet and doesn't show as wet on top

Might be duff info as i missed you have a Z4. The sensor on these is all in one and are more easily available as they were fitted to greater number of cars

Agh ok lol, I thought it was odd I’d not heard of it before.

So Z4’s definitely don’t have this under the seat?
