Hello all - would anyone be able to recommend somewhere to source a new accelerator (bowden) cable for a 1999 Z3. I have found that mine is attached by a cable tie - which offended the man at the garage. I think that the part number is 35411164834. Huge thanks

How did it offend the guy at the garage? Personally I would buy a genuine BMW part. Sopers will.post small parts. Call them and ask for Mark.

My old boss from a few years ago referred to body filler as a “Cost effective repair medium” and he was never in the REME, but Shir’s Dad was and said the same.

Hi all
Thanks for the advice. I tried Soper in.Lincoln and they were v helpful but drew a blank worldwide. Have also tried our local BMW garage too and same answer. So iI am on the hunt for someone breaking a 1999 Z3 who would love to sell me an accelerator cable. !

Are you in the AA. If you are call them. Their fitters usually have Boden cable and soldered nipples and will make a cable up.
The down side is the the in side of the outer cable will still be worn.

Have you tried a Google search of the part number? A few hits came up for me if that’s the right part. I did see a post on Facebook that there should be a supply of cables in the new year so hopefully you can obtain one in the near future if these links are no good.

Strange that Autodoc search didn't come up with the product using the part number search. Might be worth taking it to a motorcycle cable supplier who can make up a replacement using your old one as a pattern.
Could also try a repair kit for the inner like this.
Cable outers also on ebay, comes with ferrules to make your required length https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265705397812?hash=item3ddd469e34:g:uugAAOxyIj5SBVim&amdata=enc:AQAIAAAA4HtpuNUguQ4E4RTJEMoT9Pk5FGCXIeQSoy4kOJQSnWbLoM5MPFDCVYtXXBLjQ3sKFRcgLFZljLDcN7PQRFJaaXVuaUuolW8Imx3zZxCH1hb5KsZeIOXjDkfpy7Kb+FCU79nVvNK2meLsESUvljmJ8jsVkIhmrGQJ6sPcr5MHt5nzAfzh+JiO0e5qBtqJFA6YSHC7wwI5mkKwUyZFIbIfP5ptMRcvGqdwVmb2rI9zBv09bDMGvwmgRfbg1rabJOgAU8MdrBQPdP/BKia8d6rlaN7IfKFjH3oIRnO6N928lVXT|tkp:Bk9SR-Cvnr2jYw

The use of a tiewrap is probably a sign that the grommet at cable end (a right-angle fitting) has lost its grip, leaving the engine to run at idle - which will get you home ant a snails pace. Frankl, I prefer the tiewrap, as it will last for ever, as will the use of Duck Tape.
