I have just had a pair of front tyres fitted, changed the wishbone rubbers for poly, all the anti roll bar bushes and links, standard rubber, under SWMBO's car.
As a thank you, the Broomstick has decided to start flashing, and putting on the ABS light, and the amber brake warning light, while putting the brake on and 'generally messing about' to quote SWMBO. Turning this off on the button, allows it to be driven, carefully, but now I have to find the cure.
I have looked at the wheel sensors, they look ok, but, the fronts are odd, one side has a black plug, the plug looks a bit dodgy, the other side has a purple plug, Hmm.
The abs rings appear clean and not distorted. I have looked at the abs valve, just, it is very buried under the brake master cylinder, inside what I assume is a heat shield, firmly attached by invisible fasteners, so not a quick job to have a look at the soldering inside the module!
My plan of attack.
I have used my trusty reader, it came up with P1500.
I have ordered a decent reader, the one I have had for a long time, cost me £12.50, so it is overdue.
I have ordered a pair of front sensors, just to be sure.
I'll plug it in and see if it tells me anything useful, and go from there, hopefully just a sensor.
I'll change the fronts anyway, for peace of mind,
All suggestions gratefully received.

P1500 is for a stuck open Idle control valve. It could be historic, so delete it and see if it returns.

Once you get the ABS code read, let us know what they are.

I have deleted the P1500 code, I don't know where that came from, it runs perfectly, I hope I haven't tempted fate!! no other codes are coming up on my machine. I have ordered a c110+ reader, it should be here midweek, so I'll hopefully get an idea what is going on then.

I have managed to borrow a decent code reader, There are no codes stored in the module on either the inside plug or the engine bay plug. It looks like this reader cannot read it either.

I have a c110 reader and it reads the brake codes on my 1999 2.8 from the connector in the engine bay. Having said that the poor solder joints in the module seem to trigger allsorts of codes.

I have ordered the c110 reader, I just had chance to borrow one, it is an Autel, but it doesn't read the abs, so I'll wait until it arrives.
The module looks a proper nightmare to get to on SWMBO's car, I'm wondering if I can cut a trapdoor in the tin bulkhead that surrounds it to access the module.
Is it just the late model 2.2 that has this arrangement, it looks different to others I've seen.

The module on mine looks to be simpler to remove. The four screws can be accessed from above although they are on the side of the pump. It will be a bit fiddlie because you can't really see the screws that you are undoing. In my last scan a new code appeared relating to the brake light switch so I have ordered one. When I have done that I might pluck up the courage to remove the module and inspect the soldering joints

I have just been out in the dark and taken these pics, (they are not very good).

If you look closely, the side of the pump is the silver square corner towards the middle near the bottom.

This is the 'box' that surrounds it.

No, this is on the left, behind the small bulkhead that the main positive cable is bolted to, under the master cylinder and a few big bundles of wires.
What were they thinking!!
I really hope the sensors do the trick!

Yes, someone must know how to remove it. Hopefully sensors will work. I replaced the rear right sensor which comes up on my reader and it made no difference. I have 3 codes that come up and won't delete. My fault is intermittent and I can do a few hundred miles without the abs light coming on. Luckily it stayed off for my mot last week

Can't have a slippery broomstick, now can we.

The M52TUBXX car's have the ABS module under the fuse box, which allows it to be accessed.

The M54BXX car's have the ABS module under the master cylinder, which is one of the most daft places to put it.
