So, I bought myself a 2.8 wide body z3. A late night stroll through eBay resulted in me becoming the owner of a z3!!

Now I’m really lucky as she only has one patch of rust and that’s on one of the outer sills

I managed to source a second hand sill off eBay in a fetching shade of dark green and I took both off and made a few minor repairs

now here’s where things kind of wandered off path.. I did buy this z3 with the sole intention of just enjoying it. But while it was in the air I decided to fully poly bush the back end with power flex bushes it was at this point I noticed the offside rear shock was completely knackered. And with that I decided sod it.. I’m going to buy her coilovers and shed as much weight from her as possible and have a bit of fun.

so I gave the engine a good scrub and then completely removed the air con system and the viscous fan,
and thats about where I’m up to at the moment, waiting on a few bits from Germany and then I can put the cooling system back in

now I know a lot of people will say by taking the air con off is just ruining it and making it un sellable but that’s the point.. I have no intention of selling it I’m just going to have some fun and re live being a boy racer:joyful:
to be continued…….

I knew that taking this approach wouldn’t be greatly appreciated by all but you know what I’m past the age of caring now :joyful: I’m going to actually just do the mods that make me smile and be happy and to enjoy being in the garage doing what I love… tinkering !

I’d love to say polybushing this was a nice job but it was actually a massive pain in the arse:bored:

Can someone help me because there is no progression and I’m about to have a breakdown of the non mechanical kind.. the thermostat housing arrived from Germany this morning, awesome I get to put the car back together.. so just to be doubly sure I find a auto doc (that’s where I purchased the housing from) video on YouTube. I begin to watch and take notes on where he’s putting rtv ect and his engine looks like this

But then I go to put the thermostat into my block and…

The housing I have is identical to his and the thermostat is brand new. My old thermostat was built into the housing unit but I can’t use that as it doesn’t open at the right temperature. Someone please help

This is the new housing. Many thanks in advance.

What difference is there in the stat opening temps? Is it physically the same size and would fit?

The new thermostat opens at 80 degrees instead of 88 but the fact I don’t have that step in my engine block means the new thermostat has nowhere to sit and will stand to proud

So the separate thermostat should sit in the block like this. My engine doesn’t have that step so am I limited to only being able to use the combined housing and thermostat
