I took my Z3 for it's MoT yesterday and thankfully it passed, but when I got home and looked at the certificate there was an advisory on it which said "under trays fitted".
I was a bit confused about this statement so I went back to the garage, where I have been taking the Z3 for 16 years now, and I was told it was to protect themselves, as he had another car in for an MoT, and a few months later the brake pipe behind an "under tray" had burst! He said that they are not allowed to remove any tray to inspect any item behind, plus it would take too long to remove and replace the trays for the MoT. He also said that he puts engine covers fitted as well, if he cannot see the items underneath to inspect.
So does this mean that every car with under trays fitted will have an advisory on the MoT? Has any one else had this? Or will it be a case of removing the under tray to have a clean MoT certificate with no adviseries on?

Not really mate, because some saddo will probably advise that under trays have been removed. Pathetic.

The place that I have used for around 10years put something similar for both the Z3MC and VW Golf on the MoT paperwork. They explained the reason along the lines of how it was for you.

Once upon a time I had a Saab in for MOT, while on the brake rollers one of the rigid pipes burst. It was above the fuel tank, couldn't possibly have seen it. So it may be worth putting down in writing that not everything could be checked, absolutely nothing wrong with the rest of the car, just an invisible pipe.

Similar design to the Saab, I tested a Vectra and the same thing happened a while after I tested it. The steel pipe over the exhaust heat shield burst and my Boss at the time took the WTF attitude and I simply asked him how I should have known?
You simply cannot see everything on every vehicle during a test.
