A little engine troubles. Felix and I need your help! :)

When the engine light comes on the emissions are reading way out, causes of this are extremes of fuel or air quantities, I would get the codes read, if there are none, look for split hoses, depending on the codes it could be a number of sensors, but usually it will be the cam sensor, Iwould expectvto see mis Fire and lambda codes, and hope fully either cam or crank sensor.

@David Cullen ...you should've put your money on that as you were spot on! ;) we cleared the codes again and the cam shaft sensor came up on its own straight after

Haha @GazHyde i take it mine isn't the first to go? ;)
Any advice on which part to source and from where? I was going to buy one on the Internet and have it delivered to the garage as they've kindly said they'll fit it. Hoping I can still meet up with a fellow zed owner from gods own country (ie yorkshire! And Ie @Aceman !) though I don't know if that might be wiser after ive got this darn sensor replaced? I think Id be wise to avoid driving felix where possible until ive got this fixed

@Aceman suggested I need to replace both sensors (he said there are two!) but he's very kindly offered to help me do the fitting which would make it much more affordable/doable for me, so I'll give them a call and see what they say :)

Yes there are two. I've been a cheap skate and replaced the most likely one (according to Sopers). Can't remember which, but it at least allowed the fault code to clear at the time. Got rid of the lumpy idle I had at the time so didn't worry about the other. The code does keep coming back so need to do the other when funds allow.

Top offer from @Aceman to fit them for you though!

The exhaust cam sensor is by far the easiest to do, 5-10 mins. If you buy from other than BMW insist on OE Quality. Euro car parts sell them for around £35 also Andrew Page or GSF.

Tony.

Good speaking to you this morning Katie and back in the warmth now after football.

As discussed on the phone I am more inclined to go with BMW sensors but if @t-tony recons the ones from GSF or euro carpets are ok then maybe they will be fine. Here is the link to the writeup I did a few years ago on my previous zed which was a 2.8 with the M52TU engine but is essentially the same as the M54 so it will give you an idea of what to expect next weekend when we tackle the job.

Just great reading about this. Those less experienced of us will know how Katie is feeling and to have people like Aceman willing to give up their free time to help someone out is just great.

Well done guys, this just doesn't happen enough these days. Great to see.

You said it in one @Lexybhoy ! It makes such an absolutely huge difference to someone like me - every penny is going into studies to pay the extortionate fees and just living expenses on top! And problems with your car are a big source of worry and angst! Especially when you don't know what's wrong and/or how much it's going to cost. Honestly so wonderful to have people, friends if you will! Who you can turn to and who will go out of their way to help you out. With all the miserable things you hear about going on in the world, it restores your faith in human nature that little bit :)

its great that you sourced the problem and also great that its the exhaust side, Aceman will be happy haha the other is a bit more labour intensive :-) and i agree with you, the world is a sorry place at the moment and it is forums such as this one that restores a bit of faith in others, well done to all and i hope the fix goes to plan ;-)

Thats what makes this forum so good.. The help and the fun you can have..

Well I think we are doing both as the other is probably at end of life too and just waiting to fail as in @GazHyde case. The inlet isn't too bad just have to remove stuff to get to it first.

So We have a date on Friday to get this job done which I suppose you guys will want a picture by picture progress, so that will be Katie's job then. ;)
