I couldn’t find a previous answer.

can anyone tell me where to look on the outside of the hood please to resolve a damp issue adjacent to seat running back a few cm. It is just visible in the photo
Didn’t get the cover on in time
Thank you.

Left lower corner is the pillar that houses the seat belt. The photo is taken over the top of it. The hood is the part directly behind the seat as it starts to curve round to the rear window. The damp area is above the dark strip

So, I think that’s the convertible top in the picture, it looks like there is a small portion that is not seated correctly towards the right edge of the picture, if that is so and not an optical ilusión you could have a leak at that point perhaps.

A few pointers for water leaks. When you park the car make sure the car is (level or nose down). If you park the car nose down the water will drain correctly into the catchment chambers inside of the car. YES water drains to the inside of the Z3. Try parking the car nose up and throw a bucket of water over one of the sides of the hood, get inside of the car and you'll see water running back on itself and missing the catchment chamber. the chamber drains to the lower sill area. Below are issues I have experienced.
Don’t park uphill. Prevents water flow to correct drainage points.
Water catchment chambers inside of cabin B post LH and RH with drain hole exiting through inner wheel arch to sill
Top front windscreen open water drainage hole top of welt LH and RH should be un-obstructed
Top front windscreen water drainage, sealed oval end plug LH and RH should be made water tight
Top windscreen welt drains down A post LH and RH to door aperture sill top
Roof locking latches should create good seal. Adjust compression by loosening grub screw and turning latch 360 degrees clockwise to increase compression, re-tighten grub screw
Exterior trim seal extensions to be pushed hard up to b post
Don’t lower roof when wet, waterflow from folded roof will leak into cabin

Thank you for that list. My hood doesn't let water anywhere and I keep cleaning and re-proofing it with AutoGlym Hood treatment, but the hardtop does let water in. It is at the top of the windscreen pillar on the left (n/s) where that rubber plug is. I have resealed the plug and cleared the drain channels that run inside the rubber section down the A pillar to no avail. I suspect it's to do with the roof location means since the hood is water tight, and the amount by which it compresses the rubber and whereabouts. As the car is garaged I haven't really made a big effort to locate the leak though. After all it's only my Good Lady's left leg that gets wet!

Looking at the picture I would say the drain in the small drip tray is blocked or partially blocked. If it is partially blocked it won't have water in it all the time but with a good downpour it will fill and spill out exactly where the stain is.
Partially drop the hood so that you can see the drain hole and then give it a good rodding.

I have heard of this mythical drain hole

It will be the location points for the HT, they are adjustable, I'm guessing that the HT is not sitting square on the car. The adjustment manual is on here somewhere.

Proofing the hood will do nothing to aid stopping water getting in just make water bead on the surface. The soft-top has a waterproof membrane underneath the Twilfast fabric to stop the water passing through.

As said most likely the rear drain(s) are blocked, and these are inside the car.

I have seen it I think, and it needs dedicated gauges IIRC

You could get the wedges for the rear at one time but I'm sure you could find the thickness with some research and make a work around

I have found my copy - if anyone wants a copy I can send it by email - and I shall look for wedges and 'C' spanner. Thanks for the reminder of this document Nodzed.
