Well this could be one of the last hot sunny days here for this year so we couldn't waste it. Drove up past Ladybower dam and over to Langsett then down into Holmfirth. Stopped for a drink in the sun outside the Old Bridge before carrying on up Holme Moss then down to Glossop and over Snake Pass.Then across through Bradwell and down to the Red Lion in Litton for lunch. After that it was through Miller's Dale, Longnor and along a new to me lane through Elkstones before driving along the ridge from the Mermaid to the curiously named Bottomhouse! Onwards home through Ashbourne by way of the Tiger Inn at Turnditch.

Would have popped down if I'd known, I'm not 5 miles from Holmfirth.

Did have a run out with Herself to Bakewell yesterday, but in reverse to yours. Holme Moss, Glossop, Buxton to Bakewell. Nice lunch (Bakewell Pudding in the fridge), Home via Grindleford, Hathersage, Bamford, Ladybower, Strines and home.

Very pleasant way to spend a day . . .

Reservoirs VERY empty, Langsett probably the fullest one . . .

Yes, they're very low Alex, but some rain is on it's way. No doubt we'll be getting plenty over the winter. :D

I did likewise Ken, 27° so out in Fiji to Leawood Pump House at High Peak Junction. Without wanting to hijack your thread, first photo is the pump house:

The business end at the front of the beam:

T'other end of beam stroking the pump unit which lifts about 8 tons of water from River Derwent into the Cromford Canal:

And seen at full lift:

The horizontal 'bar' is called a 'check wing' to prevent over stroking, not seen one before on a beam engine;

Guess they were all down the pub afterwards as well !!

They really were built to last Adrian! Nothing like a machine where you can see how everything works. :thumbsup:
