97 Z3 6 cyl. I did the center support bearing , it was torn to pieces. I looked at the flex coupling which had been changed and looked fresh. It was also in the correct orientation. Glanced at the trans mounts they looked alright. I'm thinking now I should have done a little prying on them to see if they would separate. And I should have replaced the flex coupling because I have a new one.

Anyways it's still thumping, but only in 2nd at about 3k, all other gears and rpms on.

I ordered the trans mounts, and thinking I should get another center support in case that new one is already torn. I did try to preload it 1mm towards the trans...I got a little on it but it was at the north end of the slots.

Did you also check the engine mounts?

I did not, but I will thank you for the suggestion. Any easy way to check them? I can see the one large circular one that looks hydraulic by where I was messing with the exhaust. I was going to do the trans mounts this week and see if I could swap out the flex coupling without dropping the exhaust again.

If the engine mounts have leaked oil (they are oil filled) you will see it. Best way to check them is one side at once by jacking under the edge of the sump using a wooden block and watching to see if the motor raises as you lift, and then if it drops as you lower the jack.
