I have a 1997 bmw z3 1.9 manual and the car seems like it was running fine, but I would get a CEL (112 phasensor) after about 150 miles of clearing the code. I read on someone else's post that said 112 is for a camshaft position sensor so I figured I'd try swapping it out because it was a cheap and easy thing to do. After I did the swap I start the car up and it runs fine for maybe 5 seconds before the rpms drop sporadically like the engine is gonna blow up. Any advice? Does this part need to go through a relearn process or something? And how do I do that? Thanks in advance

I bought a cam sensor for my 2.8 for £35 and it made things worse. Replaced it with a £120 bmw sensor and it was fine. Many so called oem sensors aren't. Often they are from manufacturers who may make some oem stuff but not necessarily that particular part. Best to put a code reader on it again. My cam sensor that didn't work was made by febi.

Febi are most often the good alternative, assuming it was a genuine Febi.

The code only comes up after about 150 miles even reading it with inpa. I found the intake manifold had a tube that got knocked off so I put it back on and the car is back to running fine so I think we'll see in a couple hundred miles if the camshaft sensor is good to go. Thanks for the replies
