Where were you? I remember it as if it was yesterday watching it on BFBS down the Falklands. The usual horror story documentaries are on and compelling viewing still to this day :(

A very interesting one on Sky about 7 tiny airports in Newfoundland that had to take 240 incoming transatlantic jets as US airspace was closed, a great job done by all.

We were in Tenerife, when someone told us there'd been a plane crash. Spent the rest of the day glued to the TV.

Seen most of the documentaries and drama series detailing such a horrendous day. Read a lot of the books written by the first responders and survivors too. Some real heroes and some very sad stories.

A tragic day which deserves to be remembered.

I had taken my first transatlantic flight to Cincinnati two days before it happened. I was working out there and can't really describe the reaction of the people I was working with other than disbelief that it could happen. One of the women in the office had a sister who worked in the towers and thankfully she was safe and well.

We were in one of the offices watching it all unfold when one of them came down.

One thing I do remember was all communications closing down for a while.

It was. Wife and I went to NY this year and I wanted to do the 9/11 memorial as it meant something to me but less to her. There's lots of other bits like a colleague of mine was trying to get to us from South Africa and it took him 60 hours to get there. All sports were cancelled, theme parks closed. The whole place was in shock.

A degree of 'surely this can't be happening' I suspect. Very sad :(

We'd been to New York in April 2001 and were fortunate enough to be able to go to the top of the World Trade Center. Really wish I'd paid more attention, just took it for granted.

Went back in June 2002 and went to Ground Zero as it was then called. The observation deck was covered in posters for missing persons, it was heartbreaking. The devastation was unimaginable.

I was working in Sydney, Australia at the time. Came back from the pub around 11pm, wife said "an aeroplane has flown into a building in NY". "Oh well" says I, and went to sleep off the 6 pints of Guinness!

At the time I was working for company outside of Lincoln and was on my way down the A46 by pass to fetch some parts when over the radios it was announced that a plane had hit the building. My initial thought was terrorism because immediately came to mind about the bomb going off under the WTC previously. On my way back they reported the second plane hitting the tower which in my mind confirmed my suspicions. I said to those at work when I got back "Jesus, that will have opened a right can of worms", it did, and the lid is still off now.:(

Sat in my office when one of the site ops staggered in with a TV and said you've got to see this, just after he got it set up and working we watched the 2nd plane crash, we all spent the rest of the day glued to the TV, never forget it as long as I live. :(

Was at home when Gail called to turn the tv on. Unable to comprehend the enormity of what was happening.

The memorial is one of those must visit places. The viewing floors of the new building are impressive too showing that whatever the provocation that society recovers from the acts of evil.

I read in the last few days that it needn’t have happened. The Intelligence Agencies looked at the threats through western eyes and discounted them as insignificant and led by AK47 wielding cave dwellers missing many clues about the intent and capability. Whatever - it was a world changing moment. One hopes that intel is used in a more open minded way in future.

A few years earlier I and a colleague had flown to Atlanta on business. Two of us suited and booted early on a Sunday morning were deemed worthy and got upgraded to first class. A treat in its own right. Over New York we were invited on to the flight deck and watch the city pass by. Something now never to be repeated but remembered for life.

I was at work when one of my colleagues told me to come and watch the television. I could not believe what I saw. How could a human being sink so low as to conceive and carry out such a hideous crime like this.

Easy answer is that Bin Laden wasn't human Mike. He and all his like are animals, Pigs to be precise.

I was working afternoons for a national food distributor and was stood in the transport office watching the tele on the wall. I'd never seen that office in silence other than the tv. Scary times and so very sad.

Chilling, spine tingling place to visit. I’m no museum regular, but I found the ground zero memorial absorbing.
