Hi All,
I’ve seen a 59 plate Z4 23i 2.5 done 40k, bright red and looks really well, but it doesn’t have heated seats. I’m not too bothered (he says after the hottest summer on record) about that but I’m sure SWMBO would have an opinion. Are the seat pads and wiring installed to add this or is it question of doing it from scratch if that’s at all possible?
Cheers,
Michael.

Do I know that car, does the owner's name start with G by any chance ?

I cant answer you directly, but I have the identical Melbourne Red E89 but with the smaller 2.0 liter engine. I have the sports seats so have lost the heated seat option.

Its no biggie. Not everyone takes their car out in winter but I do. The vents blow out really nicely, its winter, I quite like coming back slightly pink cheeked but I'm not cold.

@Richard29 - that’s a shame.
@AleNod - the cars at a dealers, and I’d definitely be taking it out in winter, with the lid down. Crisp sunny days etc. Heated seats required for when the weather’s wet ‘n’ cold….
Thanks for your replies.👍🏻

My 23i has heated sport seats but as to whether there is any "pre" fitment I don't think BMW do that anymore. Although they seem to be returning to that so they can remotely hire you heated seats at a price.

Tony.

Hi, I have the same car and is used all year round with the roof down and personally I would not have a zed without heated seats for winter use, personal thing I guess. As said the heaters are very good in the e89 and there are the knee vents under the dash that give that extra blast of heat.

You can buy the pads new but the cost is ridiculous from my brief research, approx 1k per seat, then you need the switches and who knows if the wiring is in place and you would need to fit them??
You would be better off buying a set of heated seats from a breakers I would think, but then still have the wiring question. Its a bit of a no brainer IMO. If you want an e89 with heated seats I would just buy one with them in and save yourself a lot of cost and hassle. Most had them have got heated seats and I have only seen a few without, as far as I can see heated seats were only not an option with cloth upholstery (another rare option) but were an option on all leather seats ;)

I successfully put aftermarket heated seat pads into my E85 2.5 Z4 manual seats. The factory wiring should have been there already which would have needed a heated seat switch equipped centre dash unit being sourced and connected and the under seat connections found and connected. I decided to use an after market kit which included switches and looms. Seats out and covers taken off to fit the pads followed by replacing the seat covers, lots of hog rings needed to put them back together. The new switches were fitted at the rear of the gear stick and are not obtrusive in the cockpit. The seat pads have two heat settings and are working well. Later cars not fitted with heated seats will not have the wiring pre installed so if yours is one of these the aftermarket kit route via ebay may be the way to go. Old thread on here posted by me when I did mine with pictures if you have a search.

Thanks Colb and Nodzed. I’ve done seat repairs on my XK8 seats that required taking them out and covers off etc, but putting two wiring looms in and wiring to the required relays would probably a bit to much, so just getting the vehicle with them is the way to go.
The motor in question above is here:
Cheers,
M
