Great response Adrian, you are 100% correct in your comment, the original diff bush has been designed to do a job with a specific shore hardness to absorb the vibrations and the stresses it would encounter in normal everyday driving, the original bush has probably lasted 20 years, here’s to another 20 with the new oneFolk will argue it both ways John but my belief is mechanical components need some isolation through compliant damping. Without, mechanical stresses will be transmitted to the vehicle body (and drìver!) potentially causing fatigue points. We don't drive on artillery wheels anymore!
Like everything it's a compromise, keeping the wheels in maximum contact with the road (the primary objective of suspension, not for comfort) and also damping mechanical stresses. Start messing with one area and forces are re-directed elsewhere.
I don't 'track' the car, as long as it gives me a taut but relatively comfortable ride that suits me. New oem bushes etc should 'tighten' things up sufficiently for my needs as a road going car but still offer responsive handling if pushed through an acceptable performance envelope. I would consider 'M' lollipop bushes up front an acceptable upgrade.
As I said, I chose oem bushes for my personal requirements - no doubt others have differing views
I used the poly bush. Didn't have a press so it was easier plus I wanted to see what they were like.Hi Adrian,
Love it,
The diff cover looks great, I see you also used a Genuine BMW/Lemforder bush, any reason for not fitting the poly bush? Just curious, I will also be fitting the BMW bush when I eventually get round to doing my rear suspension.
Hello Daspete,I used the poly bush. Didn't have a press so it was easier plus I wanted to see what they were like.
This is the trouble you see. And it happens with me with shot blasting/powder coating. I start getting stuff I don't need done. And even start buying stuff I don't need to get done as well. It's addictive making things look like newHere's an M44 inlet upper that I had done. I don't even have an M44
I plan to fit it to the M43 at some point, it does fit and work. Just need a couple of brackets altering.
I had my airhead engine cases and everything else vapour blasted prior to rebuild, it looked like a new bike when finished. Yours looks beautifu, great job!The guy does a lot with bikes, in particular cleaning/rebuilding carbs as dealers do not wish to get involved. The guy is very knowledgeable, has an immaculate workshop attached to his immaculate house! Was there 2 hours just dropping the cover off. Google him at Vapourworx in Burton on Trent
