Ever since I have owned my Z3 I have wanted to move the rear view mirror as it had been previously re-stuck about an inch and a half lower than it should have been. So in the never-ending gap between Christmas and New Year and after reading another thread on here about mirror glue I thought I would give it a go.
So I removed the mirror with an anti-clockwise turn leaving it hanging from the alarm and central locking wires, next with a knife managed to remove the small button that's left stuck to the windscreen. I removed all bits of glue on the button and the windscreen and cleaned with white spirit. So far so good. I decided to use the Loctite Mirror glue but after two attempts gave up. I think it needs warmer weather to work and both attempts ended after leaving to dry for 24 hours and trying to twist the mirror in to place. I am sure this is what had been previously used before as there was small round mesh disc left on the windscreen after removing the button the same as with the Loctite kit. I think it needs to be used in warmer conditions than I gave it to work so I gave up. Next after reading a review on mirror glue I tried Gorilla Epoxy. This come in a double syringe and is a two part glue that requires mixing just before use. I followed the instructions and tried again. It needed holding in place when attached as it started to move down the windscreen so I held it for a few minutes and then stuck some Duck tape over it to be sure it didn't move. 24 hours later I tried again to reattach my mirror and Hey Presto it seems to have worked. I spent £12 on two lots of Loctite glue and £5 on the gorilla glue. One benefit with the gorilla glue is I have only used a small amount so I have plenty left if needed for anything else. With the Loctite glue you use it all in one go. Only time will tell if the gorilla epoxy glue lasts long term but the early signs are good and it is far more economical. If I had used the Loctite glue in warmer conditions I am sure it would have worked but without a garage or warmer weather I found it just didn't work.

Strange that, mine stuck well with the loctite stuff. Maybe the weather as you say. On the other hand I glued some plastic today with the Gorilla glue (not the epoxy, I was looking at that) and it hasn't set at all. It does say on the bottle plastic* but there is nothing about what the * is for, maybe it is not suitable.

I have used some gorilla glue before at work not the epoxy, only after it didn't work did we read the instructions and find out it needed to be used on a damp surface for it to work =))
