Hi all, last year I turned 30 and I wanted to re-purchase a motorbike after previously selling one for an engagement ring. However, my now wife didn't agree with that strategy and I went for a 2 seat convertible that would fit my garage instead. BMW z3 was the primary choice due to it's straight 6 engine, good looks, overwhelming support and it being a James Bond car.

I bought my 2002 Z3 from a gent outside of London with only 36,000 on the clock. It has the M sport packaged so it has the nicer seats, aluminium trim and glow in the dark gear knob.
Since then I've done numerous fixes, pulled the full history of the car and kept it stock to maintain it's overall value. Apart from fitting a Bluetooth unit to the existing BMW CD43 player.

It's had the ABS module fault and since been replaced for £650, so now I enjoy traction control and ABS. The car is stored away for Christmas whilst I also retrofit Cruise Control and an OBC.

The plan is to enjoy it to the maximum for 6 dry-ish months out of the year whilst not throwing too many miles on it, after all it has 37,000 miles on it and is 15 years old!

:welcome: From Wales, Ryan. Where are you based?
I vaguely remember being 30 back in the mists of time:p. Enjoy your Z3, they don't mind being taken out in the winter, honest!
Colin.

Hi, welcome from Mansfield.

Retrofitted the OBC on mine. Was a straight forward job and took about 30mins.
I'm also looking to retrofit Cruise Control, but still looking for the parts.

Look forward to seeing some pics of the Zed

Hi Colin, I'm based in Cheshire, but used to take my bike out into Wales to Corwen and beyond.

Hi Jjim, I managed to get the cruise stalk from eBay along with an indicator stalk that had the BC button on it for £30 combined, however during cleaning before fitting, I stupidly used a degreaser and have faded the Acc/Dec writing on the stalk. I can get a replacement one but i'm not sure how to get the old one off??? Brute force? I called BMW about the Cruise control module, that was £60 and then I referenced this link on how to fit it. https://zroadster.org/articles/bmw-z3-m54-cruise-control-retrofit.25/

Hi Ryan and :welcome: from Bonzo in Norfolk.. Now I think there is nothing to beat driving out on a nice crisp sunny winters morning. With the top down, heated seats on, hot air blowing out of the face level vents to keep the pinkies warm and wearing a nice scarf and cap, Bliss!:coolsteer)
Try it!
I don't take Z3lda out in the rain or if the roads are wet, but there are always lots of winter days to go out and have a blast. Also fairly frequent use (30 -40 minutes minimum run) will prevent calipers and other stuff seizing up, discs from rusting, will keep everything else nice and free and lubricated and avoid tyres from flat spotting......These engines are good for over 100,000 miles, so use it.... and enjoy it!
All the best,

:drinks:

Well I need to work out how to fix the drivers seat heater. Back works, bum doesn’t. Guess that’s a strip down job?

I hear you Bonzo however no road tax, currently no drivers seat (swapping over bushings) and mostly no interior. I’m in winter project mode this year, but maybe next year I will. I’ve gone for adding cruise control, OBC and switching positions on the roof switch without having to cut any wires
