Wish I had a shed that big to work in. Roll hoops look great as does the B&Q gaskets ;)

I've been after a white third brake light for a while and luckily came across this one this week

£19.95 plus p+p from Alexanders of Somerset. There service was great, really quick and i thought the price was good too compared to some of the others i've seen on eBay. I'll need to source the gasket from the dealers before fitting it, it will give me something to do over winter when the car is sorn'd.

My first ever purchase for the Z was the BMW type 71 18" clubsport alloys, i really liked the split rim look and the staggered fitment was great too. I'd never really looked at all the options as offsets, spacers and such blew my mind :head: I've recently been on the look out for another set  I still really like the split rim, and 18" was a must! but the compromise was the staggered fitment :(

So the new/used arrivals are here. I picked them up tonight from literally 2miles away (must be fate, well so i told the mrs  )
Genuine AC Schnitzer type iii racing split rims 18" offset 43

I've wanted the Schnitzers for a while and the deal was too good to turn down. Still to get are the Aluminium centre caps (they came with the genuine plastic ones) and the necessary spacers and longer bolts etc.
They wont be going on until spring as during the winter the car sits on its standard 16" alloys to avoid flat spots etc.

To be fair I've got about 4 more sets of wheels to get before I can anywhere close :D
This is probably my last big purchase :( not really sure what else I'd want to do to it. I've spent two and a half years and more money than I'd admit too getting it to this point. I suppose the odd stone chip, maybe a front end respray, oh yeah and the Eisenmann exhaust :D

With a bit of time on my hands today i managed to get a few jobs on the Z done.
First was the perspex wind deflector, i'd probably made three MDF prototypes in total until i was finally happy with the fit. It was definitely worth taking the time to get it right. The perspex one fits great, cut out of 5mm perspex its robust enough. The photo is a bit naff as i took it on my phone, i also need to change the velcro straps for the clear ones i bought to complete the look. So the total was £12 straps and £15 perspex all in all a bargain.

With the car now sorn'd for winter i wanted to swap the wheels to the original 16" 5 spoke alloys that it came with as it would be stood stil for a considerable amount of time. It seemed a good opportunity to test fit the 18" AC Schnitzer type3 split rims :D

From behind they sit pretty flush with the wheel arch, i need to get the tyres fitted but there is no rush as i won't put them on until the spring.
I'll be selling the type 71 split rims as three sets of wheels seems a bit excessive.

When i first got the car i bought a hardtop and fitting kit, it rarely goes on but i've decided to fit it over the winter. No other reason really than it seems the best place to store it. It's been said before but it does really change the appearance of the car.

I rolled a blanket for the window to try and avoid as much creasing as possible so fingers crossed all will be fine until spring :)

Also got chance to have a chat with a joiner who was working at the house, he's got a 1.8 Z and is considering swapping it for an SLK (I soon put him right :D )

Looking great good job on the wind deflector saved yourself a fortune there. Think the wheels will look smart as well I like the flush valve in the bolt position. Just a few months to wait until you can take it out again then :D

Yeah cheers Daz. Spring seems a v.v.v.v.v.long time off :(
The wind deflector is bespoke with the AC Schnitzer hoops being variable in the height you can put them in so it was a bit of trial and error but the finished result fits like a glove. The valves are good in that they are so neat but I'm fearing the valve caps might be popular :-s
Before I fitted the valve I had to have a helicoil repair made to the thread of the wheel, £10 :D. It was done by a small company in Rixton (only 2 miles away) called Micro Precision Engineering, they are FAB! One of those places that you can take small jobs and they're able to do it with a quick turn around too. I would highly recommend them if anyone is fairly local :)

For the first time since i got the Z it got no presents from the Mrs for Christmas :( So it was up to me to treat it :D
Firstly was the cup holder, i'd been looking on eBay for a while and seen second hand ones go for anything upto £90  and so i'd always resisted but then chanced upon the actual price from the dealer new £58!! ordered and in the dealership by 1pm the next day. I'm going to make the armrest and get it upholstered by the same guy that covered my console in Alcantara as I want to make sure that the red matches the seats and dashboard etc.

I've also been on the lookout for a set of ///M Gills, and when someone was breaking an ///M on eBay I managed to pick these up for £100 cash (Thanks must go to M3MBC who picked them up for me as he was getting some bits too). I've stripped them down and cleaned them, i'll be filling the ///M before spraying.

There are some tiny pieces of plastic that hold the chrome part in place, due to their age a few of these broke as i removed them so a quick phone call to the dealer and replacements were ordered.

Eight tiny clips £8.45

The small clips that are the same as the door card clips but smaller and hold the gills in place £4 each and minimum order of TEN!!!!

Didn't order them

I don't know why but it appears that whatever I decide to buy at the minute has been discontinued :head: Justroadster stopped the AC Schnitzer wind deflector just as i got the hoops, and have stopped the centre armrest too :head:
This trend has continued, When i got the Schnitzer type iii racing alloys i deliberated over the centre caps  I had the standard silver plastic ACS type but thought an upgrade could wait until I fitted them when the car is back on the road and unsorn'd.
I liked the schwarz centre cap

But couldn't find them anywhere :head: Which left the polished aluminium type £26 each from Rossiters. So a quick phone call to them and all sorted, unfortunately not :head: they had TWO! and said they are now discontinued. Emails to ACS in Germany, US and others all provided the same sad news so the hunt began.

Needless to say i didnt buy these, eventually i found two on ebay in America but they won't ship over here so i've had get them sent to a distant relative in Connecticut who will post them on.
The Rossiters ones arrived in double quick time :D

So a few jobs to get on with for the next couple of months before the car is back on the road :)

That lot will keep you occupied for a while. I always find it good to have something waiting to fit or do on the zed. What are you doing with the left over ///M badges incidently could do with refreshing mine.

It looks like they've already had the vinyl treatment but if you want them they're yours :) just pm me your address and I'll pop them in the post.

well a little over 10yrs since I posted on this thread. Still got the car, it’s now done 51k so only a few thousand in the last few years. It’s not getting used so I’m beginning to return it to standard so there will be some choice bits coming up for sale in the near future.
