England stepped up their preparations for the World Cup in Brazil next month with victory over Peru at Wembley.
Peru were selected for this occasion to offer a taste of South American opposition, and it was a win that was not without its anxious moments before Roy Hodgson's side exerted their authority.

I'm of two minds here.

When I look at the team I don't really give them much of a chance, but that may be a help to them. No expectation and no great stars may have the desired effect and produce an actual team. After all it's about Teams not stars. I wouldn't place money on it though!

It would be of no surprise to me if they went out in the group stages. Stranger things have happened and they may actually play. Historically though they tend to snatch defeat from the jaws of Victory without any trouble.

Gerrard is a very good player and it's his last chance to shine. Maybe he'll step up to the mark. His disappointment with this season will give him a very focused outlook. Rooney the same. It's both of thems last world cup. They will fight and hopefully lead.

Suarez I don't think will tear them apart as he may do others as they know his game very well. He's also been injured just lately and his form dropped away as the season came to a close.

The last 18 games he scored 8 goals. The first half of the season he was rife and scored 16. Either he lost momentum or others worked out how to slow him down. I suspect it was the latter not the former as he looked to be trying even harder as the season went on. Our lot are at an advantage over others with him. Sturridge in the last 18 games scored 11. Thats a pretty interesting statistic. Gerard scored 8 as well in the last 18 games. Though most from penalties.

One of my sons is in the south of Brazil at the moment and he says at present it's chilly! Not so up at the top, but long may that poor weather continue. It is their winter and the weather will play a major part I suspect.

Out in the group stages for me.
Why?
Weather conditions against us. Remember the Mexico World Cup (1970?).
No play maker of note to keep the ball moving forward.
English premier league style not suited to this type of tournament.
Good luck England. Enjoy the experience. Hope I have it all wrong.

You can see the state of the roads when we flew out and it hasn't changed much since then. That is just one road (all the main roads are like this in our city) and is the main road from the airport to the city/stadium. I added a Google translate fail from the mens loo at the airport ;)

Great first match, will be talk about dubious decisions when they watch the replay, but you have to remember football is still based on what the referee sees and perceives.

Although good there was nothing that said stand out quality, could be England's year.....
