2003 Z4 hardtop removal

Hi all,
How do I remove the hardtop from a 2003 Z4, there are no tools with the car,

The easiest way is with the tool specific for it. It’s a large Allen key, with a large hex one end and a smaller cylindrical end on the other.


The hex end goes into the latch mechanism which is under an over cover just in front of the rear view mirror. You turn the tool anti-clockwise and the latch undoes.

The cylindrical end goes in the two side locking mechanisms. They’re are under covers (on the roof) next to the seatbelt mechanisms. Insert the cylindrical tool into the corresponding hole ( ) and turn the mechanism (not the tool) towards the front of the car.

Instead of this tool, you could use a large Allen key and a metal rod.

Hi David thanks, I may be having a blonde moment, but don't understand on the mechanism by the satbelts, there doesn't appear to be any thing to turn!

I'm guessing you put a rod into the hole on the shaft and turn it anti clockwise to undo it.
