2000 Z3 driver seat not going up/down

I just got this car, and the drivers seat will not go up or down, but will go forward and aft. I can hear the motor or solenoid running but no up and down. Unfortunately it’s stuck in the up most position and it makes look strait at the top of the window.

Any ideas on what’s not working or a manual method of lowering the seat. Any help would be much appreciated.
