Just seen this on the BBMF Website Both Lancasters and a Spitfire are due to fly over the Derwent Dam at 16:45 this Sunday (21st) whilst returning from the Southport Airshow. Probably a once in a lifetime oportunity to see 2 Lancasters go over the dam that was used for training for the WWII Dambuster Raid.
We had a Spitfire and Hurricane fly over our village today to mark the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate one of the Dambuster Pilots who lived in our village. What a evocative noise they make. . The pub mentioned was used by US airforce in the war . A wellington Bomber also crashed in the fields half a mile away in 1945. link to local paper. http://www.hinckleytimes.net/news/local-news/green-plaque-date-set-dambusters-7753123
