I had to take my Z back to the garage today :p
As when I first start the car up it shudders for a few minutes in 1st and 2nd gear :(
It was put on the diagnostic machine again :)
It came back that only 2 cylinder were working :(
So it's going back on Tuesday to be put on a compressor machine :(
Hope they find out what the problem is :)

If my memory serves me right your garage looked at your diagnostics previously and dismissed something that some of us didn't like the look of?

If it's something serious or some lasting damage has been done I would remind them of the fact they glossed over it.

Hope it isn't anything serious :(

Don't panic till you get the final decision Shelly!! It may not be as serious as your mind is making it out to be!! I hope it turns out to be an inexpensive fix. Hope you and Alan are well!! JIM

They will be doing a compression test on each cylinder. If the compression is low you most likely have a mechanical failure within the engine. It seems a bit over the top to go straight for that before looking for an ignition problem.

I wouldn’t worry yet. I suspect their knowledge is mechanical/first principal based and their powers of deduction/application of logic are not too hot. They would be working off the error codes rather than plugging in a compression tester otherwise.

To the best of my knowledge the DME only ever reports a misfire and not a ‘physically dead’ cylinder.

Statistically, the chances are they’ll be saying the compression test is fine and they’ll have to look for an ignition fault.

I think you’d be unlucky if it was a mechanical failure. But I wouldn’t wish to get your hopes up too much by suggesting it couldn’t possibly be.

My Z went back to the garage yesterday :p
It had a compression test :)
It came back that the fuel and air weren't going through at the right times so that's why my Z is jumping a lot when it first starts off :(
The garage has ordered me my part from BMW which will be here Friday ;)
So it's going back next Tuesday hopefully the problem will be sorted ;)
