2.8 No Undertrays??

Hi all,

My 2.8 has a little "splash shield" at the very front of the car, covering the radiator from the bottom

However... this is the only under tray covering the engine bay, it seems rather few, compared to other cars I have worked on

Do all 2.8s have this lack of under trays??

If so do people know of any good aftermarket ones, or OEM ones that fit?

Not all models had the full undertray. You can check on Realoem to see If it was fitted to yours, if the picture is greyed out then it wasn't. I suppose one could be retrofitted if you want to go down that route. The 'splash shield' in BMW terms is called the air duct, it directs airflow up to the radiator.
 
As you've noticed the 2.8 had a front lower shield for rad air flow. Get an under tray from the 2.2 or 3.0 these will fit fine.

Interesting about the air duct!

All undertrays are greyed out for me
 
Why would anyone want a full-length undertray? It would just get in the way of doing and oil change or possibly even an air con belt change in reurn for a very small reduction in drag at speeds most people never attain.
 
I guess they offer the benefit of keeping some of the dirt out of the engine bay
 
My 1998 2.8 only has #2.
My previous 1998 build 1.9 had #1 and was an utter pain in the arse. I was delighted when I discovered the 2.8 didn't have the larger one.

Hmmm...

maybe i should rethink my choices

It sounds like it does more damage that it is worth

If you want your zeds to last you want a way to keep all the road grim off the front subframe, bushes, power steering lines etc.

We’ve had 100’s of zeds up on the ramp and you see a huge difference to the condition everything having a full under tray.

FYI you don’t need to take the full tray off to change the oil.
