A blueprinted engine and cams would be quite a dramatic change but pricey

Other than the entertainment factor of proving your engineering capabilities from humble beginnings (which I 100% understand) - WHY?

As said, a bog-standard, easy to get hold of, 3 litre will get you as close as makes no difference.

All that work and an auto-box - DOUBLE WHY??

I would imagine the way it's runs and revs up would be quite different from a bigger capacity engine - if you've like a Vrec you'd know what I mean, its different and just sound great.

Not sure how it well it works with an auto box though, this sounds like a great engine to be rowing through a 6speed box with a shortened final drive.
