I ran over a large rock in the road the other week which hit the exhaust in the most unfortunate place:(. It dinged the join between the downpipe after the cat and the rest of the system. It didn't leak straight away but started to after a couple of weeks driving. I took it to Powerflow in Stafford while we're on hols but they didn't have the tools to fix it. So off to a local exhaust place for them to do it. Turns out it was a major job as they cut off the old (damaged) flanges and welded new ones and a bit of pipe in. Excellent job and she's back to normal volume:thumbsup:. Those that were at Silverstone know how noisy she was @Brian4

That a a nice near repair Dave. I like to see that sort of thing rather than the modern trend of just replace it all.

Tony.

Yes was very impressed with the place. A new modern type garage but old fashioned values. As you say repair rather than replace. The chap did have a good look at the rest of the exhaust system and said "there's nothing wrong with the rest of it, I'll repair it". No upselling at all. Got a good feeling there.

That's a nice looking job Dave, great to find somewhere they actually repair things instead of trying to sell you a new one.

I'm sure you see some real horrors Steve. I think they were quite proud of what they'd done because he said shall I put it back on the ramp so you can see what we've done. That's when I took the (quick) photos.

That is a very, very tidy repair. I'm really impressed with that.

You've also got a joint now that will come apart easily if required. Unlike the fight you'd normally have with wasted bolts.

That was part of the problem Rob. The original studs were well rusted, in fact you couldn't actually see the threads, not sure how the joints were gas tight tbh:whistle:

It all seems to become one congealed mass of rusty metal but does stay in compression to keep the seal gas tight.

Even when you get the bolts out you're just as likely to find the flange holes wasted too. That said the bolt holes are not part of the gas tight seal.

The 6 cylinder factory exhausts are brilliantly long-lived and I think they sound great too. So it's good news you found an honest garage prepared to repair it instead of put an inferior and expensive replacement on.

Always nice to see a garage that does a proper job and takes pride in their work. They have guaranteed your future business if you ever need it and you will recommend them to others. It's nice to see nowadays as there's not many places like this around that take pride in there work and don't try to fob or rip you off. Glad your pleased looks a great job
