Gettin' there on the front now. Just cant get the hose off the coupling for the brake caliper. Need some propane for the torch and try some heat.

Had my springs mounted on to shocks by a local garage. So just reassembling the front end now.

Comparred to others the corrosion on the underside and inner cills wasn't too bad. Only place I've moticed it went right through was next to the front bumper mountings in the wheel arch with the underbody seal/dampening gunge hiding it. Under where the top front panel in the engine bay that the lights sit in, meet the wheel arch, so cant be seen easily from the top. Both sides I had a hole right through about the size of a 50p. Didnt take any pics of this, dunno why.

Anyway, here's some pics of the front end going back together.

Not been about for a while. Took a break and now on to the bodywork stage as running gear is done. Went 'whole hog' regarding painting. I did a fairly good job with 2k rattle cans but the colour was off. AIn't no way topaz blue from halfords is going to math 20+ year old paint. But using a can with a small fan set me up for using a proper spray gun. I got a devilbiss FLG5 for £55 (£135 new) for base and clear coat and a cheap machine mart 1.8mm gun for primer. So stripped off all the old paint I'd practiced with and got to work with professional paint. 1lter of matched paint costs less than 2 halfords cans. The cill you see below I made out of 3 cills - got my welding and bondo skills down. Pretty imporessed with the finsih - havent even buffed them yet. Wing mirror bases too. JUst got to blend the bunmper and both rear wings then we are done.

Main cill is original with the two ends from a cill from Geoff. Other cill is Geoffs (not in pic but also painted). Didn't bother with the anti grit coating - I'll just re clear coat. Going to clear coat the light lenses too, then they wont dull. Hope you are all well - hope to be finished soon as her indoors demands.

Apart from a new rear window on order, finished. Wont find many as rust free underneath as this one. All new suspension and every bush renewedh to 90% polybush. Refurbed the wheels from Lee, myself. The wallow has gone from the rear end and feels much more 'on rails' than before (after an Italian tune up).

Learnt a lot including welding and spraying. Was worth it to myself but probably not financially oh and a very happy wife who thinks it looks very smart. Maybe another Z3, Z4 or a Mk2 TT next. Got some maintenance on my A6 Allroad to do first.

Thanks for all the help, advice and encouragement which was mostly garnered from this forum.

Here she is, ready for MOT next week.
