Hi! My name is Jim, I live outside of Seattle, I’ve got two roadsters, a ‘77 MGB and my new to me 1999 Z3. The ABS/ACS lights are on, so I bought a Carly adapter and subscribed to their annual service fee. Didn’t know how clear the code information would be, as it turns out, it’s not real clear. Here’s what the Carly report stated- “0000F5 CAN: no ASC1 -no ABS report for 1500 ms / None CAN ID ASC1”. How do I go about deciphering what this means, apparently code acronyms and component names? Is a book or manual? Assuming there is a ASC signal not being received in the allotted scan time from some device to the ECM?. 3FD6904C-45ED-4868-BD59-71073E3AC47D.jpeg

As I poke around the internet more, CAN is the data bus for the ECM and it’s components(?). So I interpret this to mean no connection to “ASC1”. My assumption is ASC1 is a part of the ABS unit located near the master cylinder(?). So, when the rain lets up, I’ll pop the hood and try to find something that looks ACS/ABS related, and check for connection issues.

Hi Jim, welcome from me near Lincoln,UK. It's relatively common for the earlier Z3 to have issues with soldered joints inside the ABS pump and I think I'm right in saying that if you can locate a used item with the exact same part number you can swap them out and then clear the fault codes. I know @Antm72 had this on his car so hopefully he can throw more light on it for you.

Tony.
