For sale is my 1999 BMW Z3 1.9 (M44). It has just over 60,000 miles on the clock. This a a manual, narrow body/pre-facelift with the M44 engine. It is in Atlanta Blue with tan interior and matching tonneau. The car was originally Hellrot red but the previous owner had the whole thing repainted to match the bond car, its a thorough paint job, can only tell the original red from the underside of the bonnet and boot lid and a minor chip by the passenger door (pictured).

I have owned the car for 2.5 years and in that time have done the following:
replaced seat bushings
repaired thermostat controls
upgraded wipers to Bosch aerotwin blades
custom stainless steel exhaust system (including catalytic converter) from Tony Banks Exhausts, Leeds. (2024)
new clutch (around 5000 miles ago, 2023)
upgraded footwell speakers
new tyres all round (4000 miles ago, 2023)
new brake lines (500 miles ago, 2024)

This is not the original engine as the water pump failed which led to a cracked head. I had a new M44 engine fitted which was on 90,000 miles so is now on 95,000 miles. The engine has service history and was serviced when fitted (July 2023).

The car runs, drives and stops well. The stainless exhaust sounds a dream, it really sings at high revs but isn't obnoxiously loud and doesn't drone on motorway drives (anymore than you would expect from a small car with a fabric roof). Automatic soft top works great and a new soft top was fitted by previous owner in summer 2022. Electric seats work well. Sony head unit fitted with Bluetooth/FM/DAB/CD/USB/handsfree phone call functions. Upgraded OBC indicator stalk has been fitted but the OBC unit itself does not work. The ASC light is always on, I think this has been disconnected since the engine swap.

1 key. Lots of service history and paperwork, including original bill of sale and specs list from 1999!

I am selling as I don't use it enough to justify the upkeep and I could do with a car that can fit more people and bicycles too!

Please get in touch via message on this forum for any more info. Asking for £3000.

Viewings welcomed, based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Good luck with the sale, FYI I have a working pre-facelift OBC clock available for sale if you wanted to replace your broken one. Send me a PM if interested :)

looking for some honest advice from other owners... am I asking too much for this? Ive also had the car listed on ebay and had no offers/interest. Would I have better luck on Autotrader or Facebook marketplace?

The market is slow across the board. I don't think it really matters where it is advertised, it generally won't make much difference.
People looking for a car will generally look at ALL the selling platforms (I know I do), so if a buyer is looking they will find it.

The colour change, mileage discrepancy between the engine and car and the ASC light being on is not going to help IMO.

One thing: how does it pass an MOT with the ASC warning lamp on? I thought that was a straight fail.

I don’t think you’ll get what you want for it unfortunately there’s a lot of Z4s for sale around the 3k mark & 6 cylinder z3s for sale . I’ve loved both of my M44 that I had but struggled when selling to get near 2k for them both with new roofs under 90,000 miles & history.

open to any offers on this, don't want the car to go to waste but I'm just not using anymore and have no garage or driveway to give it the love it deserves
