My s***'s custom!
I decided to share a non Zed related thought with you as every one of us is so much more than just someone who likes cars. Here’s a little insight in to me.

Some of you know what I do for a living and some don’t. But I’ve done it for 13 years at the sharpest end of the job. I’ve seen the best and the worst of humanity....often at the same time.

I’ve recently taken on a new role within the organisation that has taken me out out uniform and I was clearing my locker with a fond sense of nostalgia when I came this item. It’s my handcuff key. I’ve used it since day one. I don’t know how many times it’s been turned but it’s enough to have worn the grip down and polished it. It’s shown with my spare for comparison as they were identical once....

Some of the people it’s been used on were nice people, many were not. A few were nothing short of pure evil. But this little item got me thinking.... for all the people that slate the police, and for every “you should be out catching proper criminals”, for all the politically motivated anti-police spin in the media, this little item represents some of what I’ve achieved.

I’ll end with one of my favourite quotes:

“And maybe just remind the few, if ill of us they speak,
That we are all that stands between the monsters and the weak.”

You can't do jack s*** about it mate, government cuts in spending on the Police !!!
If I was you, I would go and find a nice job in some other direction.

Yup. I take my hat off to you. I receive regular updates on the type of issues the Police need to deal with from a good mate of mine (Sgt Police Officer). Joe Public in general just isn't aware of the sewer of people that are out there and doing their 'stuff' 24/7.

My son is a police officer. I'm convinced there is an alternative universe out there that, thankfully, most of us don't see on a daily basis. We would be in trouble without them.:(

And it's because this alternative universe rarely inflicts itself on the 'seats of power' that there is little recognition as to what our Police Force are required to do daily to keep it from us. My Sister-in-Law is a Police Officer in the West Midlands, her Step Dad is a retired traffic officer and my Mother-in-law used to work for West Mids Police typing up reports, the content really got to her on occasions.

The problem is that these vile scum of society use and abuse the rights given to us law abiding people. They hide behind the safety net provided for us. They inflict untold suffering and abuse the rights of others who simply want to live a safe life while they are being protected and have few meaningful consequences themselves.
Of course some will be momentary and out of character incidents, but many I'm sure are repeat offenders and well known to police. It must be immensely frustrating having to deal with them.

Maybe every MP should quietly spend a day each with all the frontline services to see the realities they face up close and unfiltered.
Well done to the boys in blue for all their work and unending efforts despite the limitations imposed upon them

utter respect for the police, 4 of my mates are coppers and you get s*** on from a great height daily whilst still getting out there and doing your jobs.

i couldn't do what you do.

also, whats the pokey bit on the top of the key for?

It locks the cuffs so they cant be over tightened by accident once they're fitted.
Can it be used for poking the bandits in to the pokey?

Your cuff key is posher than mine was.

My original baton, luckily never used against a person, but I was in a quiet town.

I think being only 5' 5" helped me in that respect, no one really ever had a go at me, they picked on the bigger boys instead.

I left over ten years ago now, I take my hat off to you still doing the Job, it's more challenging now than ever on so many levels, not to mention the budget cuts.

It's about time every boss went down to parliament en mass and told them politicians to behave, how can they justify budget cuts when the population has grown?

I have a lot of sympathy for the officers doing the job today. 30 years was more than enough for me. I see Matt has to do 35 years. The pensionable age has gone way past 55 when I was in, which I believe can't be a good thing. Enjoy your time out of uniform Matt. Only put it on again when they promote you.

What? When I was about to leave school I checked out joining the police, you had to be 6ft plus ....

They changed it over here to a height to weight ratio, not really sure what that meant, but was good for me. I joined in 1991. Before that the minimum was 5' 8"

I would often double crew with a big fella called Andy Bruce, sadly now Rip. You can imagine what we looked like wandering down the street, he was 6' 5" me 5' 5"

We got used to people shouting "little and large"
