My Z3 has 120k miles on the clock, it's a 2.2, running fine and everything is working as it should - do I sell it now whilst it has a long mot. Or do I keep it another year?

Many people think that a car is done at or around 100 K Miles, I think that's because many companies guarantee them for that many miles when they are brand new, but I don't think that applies to the 1968 BMW Z3 warranty.
At any rate, I should hope that a car as fine and upscale as a Z3 and /or other BMW's would last a long time based on the original sales price and the fact that many other foreign cars last much, much longer. I would also say, don't race the car continuously as well.
My wife's 2003 Honda CRV is at almost 200K and it doesn't burn any significant oil between service, both cars in my garage are using synthetic oil. My Z3 is at about 120k miles and I have no plans as of yet to replace it, I hope to have it a good long time, maybe 200k miles.

Mine has 122k and saved it from what it should have been ...scrap. I know people want low milers but with a decent service history and most Z3 owners now being enthusiasts (Or just stupid like me) the mileage is nothing. Keep it and enjoy it

It depends how much you want to keep it.
If you are aware of any long term issues or afraid it will not pass its next mot then you should let it go now, but otherwise there's no need to.
If you still like driving it, the depreciation will be negligible and it still has life left in it, so why sell?

150,000 now, still goes like it should, mine's staying with me where it belongs. If all cars were like that the manufacturers would go bust, so they do their best to make people want new cars.
Just be thankful we have got 6 pots , when I changed over to the X1f48 I found that some cars now only have 3 pots, and I complained when I changed down from V8's in the Range Rovers to 6 pot BMW's. but seriously it does seem as if car designers are now building in a system of "planned obsolescence"

That's compounded by stop/start technology increasing crank bearing wear.

I should have known you'd all want me to keep it :D
I'm still undecided, I like the car, have no reason to suspect anything is amiss. I replaced a whole lot of bushings and brake lines/pipes for the last mot - so it should go through the next fine.
The cills will need doing soon, and the front bumper is 5mm lower on one side (thanks supermarket carpark - I had to replace the side light then too). the boot leaks a little and there's a drip on the drinkers side seat, oh and the power roof only works from half way now. but other than that and the VED - it's pretty good. I don't know if the clutch has ever been done? or if there's anything like piston rings and the like needs doing on these engines?

@Mint 2.2 is over 190,000 now, Dave changed the oil and filter at the Shed last Saturday and the car sounds just as good as new.

Fix whatever's bothering you, everything you described are merely minor flaws and easy to repair. You can do some preventative maintenance additionally for ease of mind, but there are no major issues with this engine.
Only things you should watch are the CCV system, the DISA valve and the Vanos, these might need some attention sooner or later. But again, nothing you should worry about.

Keep the car and take care of it. There's nothing as rewarding as an old BMW which is running flawlessly. And if you spend some time on paint and interior care your Z3 will look as if it left the factory, despite its mileage :drinks:
