Two days ago I had to replace an alternater in my other car. I had done this last May and it must have been defective and went bad. I started at 12 noon and finished at 10 PM. without stopping. Biggest problem was getting the component out from the engine compartment and getting the new one back in. Took almost an hour just to unplug it before tryint to remove it. The part of the alternator that fits between the two ends of the upper mount.....
just didn't seem to want to fit in. No place to use a pry bar to push it into place. I was able to ust a block of wood and hammer against the body of the alternator to get it to go in between those two mounts. It I had known it would have been SO TIGHT, I would have used a dremel to grind the mount on the alternator down a fraction just so it could fit between these two mounts. It was a toss up between trying to get it out from the engine bay, grind it a bit and try to work it back up in again, or just see if I could hammer it back into place. The wife was tryint to feed the bolt into the bracked and alternator once it lined up and after my continual hammering at the alternator, it finally went through but didn't thread. My wife went under the car (up on ramps) and used a block of wood to keep hammering while I tried to catch the threads. Once the bolt had slid through, it took about 35 to 40 minutes of hammering to line it up so it could thread. All this because the alternator I had installed in May had gone bad.
A few days before, I spent 2 days replacing the fromt struts on my Acura. Most of the time spent just trying to get the strut assembly out from under the car.. At 67, it's not the easiest thing to do and you get tired of laying in the street working on the car. I don't envy @t-tony for his job............Frankie
