Im trying to obtain 1 day insurance for my grandson who is 19. He is a named driver on another car. I'm having trouble finding anyone online wanting to quote. Anyone know of companies who will?

If he is only a named driver on another policy and doesn't have his own, especially at his age, you may struggle TBH.

Whatever you do, don't go to any 'specialist young drivers insurers'. They are a complete rip off.

Likely to be a complete rip off regardless

The car is insured under you right? Cant you just let him borrow the car? Maybe it’s different from Oz? Unless your sending him to a race track (in which case, your not covered even if you have normal insurance) ?

It doesn't work like that in the UK. The only ways I know of being able to let someone 'borrow' a car is for them to have fully comp insurance on another vehicle and have the ability on that policy to 'be able to drive other cars with the owner's consent', or the OP's policy allows anyone over the age of 25 to drive. I think that is usually third party only cover and no-one under the age of 25 is given that right anyway.

So the OP's grandson will need separate insurance, or be added to the OP's policy as a named driver. The age of the grandson and the brevity of the cover required is what are causing the issues IMO.

Yep. Although my wife got her dad insured for a few weeks on her policy a while back. He lives abroad, doesn't have a UK licence anymore and was about 70 years old. The additional premium was quite cheap; I think around £40.

Not the same scenario as the OP's, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I tried them last year for him and at payment stage it went computer says no. However tried again today and all done, £18 for Sunday (his 19th). Given others were saying £90/£150/Nope I was really happy. Thanks for the reminder!

pleased to have helped. A colleague uses them for their son’s insurance (learner driver and just passed his test) - and in fact the consequence of him passing his test is that my colleague is borrowing my z4 roadster and I’ve finally got my z4 coupe on the road! Win, win

Cool birthday present.. Nicely done Sir.

and he is off... This is the main reason I kept the Z3 and did the sills and front suspension bits etc, so my grandson can use it.

He's doing the black mountain road in Brecon with his friend today. Perfect weather for it. I did warn him about hat, sunnies and sun cream. Hope he took my advice otherwise they will come back crisp =)). And he had a list of instructions, careful on the door pull, heating controls and seat belt guides. That's apart from he will have to do proper hill starts etc. He is only used to our 3 year old fiesta sline that he bought off us.
