Just thought I'd start a thread re the above, following on from Ben @le frog having one fitted at Custom Pipes in Doncaster. He went for the twin square tail pipes which he really liked and they did a great job of fitting it.

However it produced an unbearable droning noise at steady motorway speeds.
So after a few phone calls to the supplier they said that the tail pipes could be the main cause as they had a quite big return lip on the end, which in effect causes a restriction to exhaust gases dispursing.

Personally I thought it unlikely but Ben went back and the chaps fitted round tail pipes similar to mine.
Surprisingly it made a big improvement, no droning noise and sounds so much better in every way.

I, like you, thought they were fobbing you off. I stand corrected, so it was the tail pipes.
Agree the round ones look much better:thumbsup:

I also thought it sounded like a fob off, great outcome and very surprising.

If you look at the exhaust tips that Mat, Machine Monkey makes there are no lips on these, maybe not a coincidence.

Tony.

The round ones are more in keeping with the original look .
You've reminded me Steve that I need to get Lynne's zed exhaust something done with. Got a brand new cheap rear section ( on when I bought it ) and it makes a horrible drone and being an auto just makes it sound worse

We were chatting with @Domenico T Diiorio at the weekend after the rolling road event, he has an aftermarket exhaust on his 1.9. He was saying that it was really noisy, so he made some baffles that fit inside the exhaust tips, which quietened it down.
Maybe you could do something along those lines Stevo ?.
