So the votes from yesterday in my thread helped me make my decision making a new exhaust backbox my number one priority.

I'm considering either a quad exhaust system or just the replacement of the backbox.

Does anyone know any places that would do this at a reasonable cost whilst doing a good job? My zed does need to sound a tad louder.

I would have thought your best port of call was the interweb to see who's local to you

@5harp3y Thanks mate, I was looking for a place that had fitted a back box on a z3 - or I was after someone on the forum who had a back box fitted which would give me an idea of how good they are.

@GazHyde Thanks mate I'll check that out :)

@Faheem this is the link that gookha sent me,where he had his back box done, his dad had the quad there if i remember right.

Thanks for that Steve I'm leaning towards that anyway, but a quad exhaust would be sweeeeet. Just purely cosmetic though lol. So is it worth spending £130(?) extra on something that'll purely be cosmetic? That's something I've got to work out.

Good choice @Faheem :p

I'll make a little recording of the sound before and the sound after.

------

What does a standard 1.9 sound like? My other zed sounds nothing like my main zed)(my main zed sounds a million times better) this makes me think that it possibly may have had a different exhaust put in at some point?

Quads pretty much don't work properly if you use just the link pipe.

Also might be overkill on a 1.9

The M44 is loud as a fish! You can hear the birds singing in the trees, if you are under 60 mph.
When I replaced my original used exhaust, I started the engine, for a test , to hear the sound without exhaust, just with the cat; it was still disappointing silent! You can notice the roaring only when climbing on mountain roads, with more than 3000 rev.
But I appreciate very much this silent engine, on all long trips. I will never change the sound of it.

Sounds like a plan Faheem. I took a while in deciding if i wanted to change mine as wanted sporty but not a blurtingly loud sound.
Got the best of both with a two box system and happy with making the jump.

I think mine is just right as its raspy and sounds lush at high revs but is not in any way boomy I think it sounds nice for a few reasons, one being that its sport cats and also its twin exhaust all the way to the back, I think the sport cat maybe has quite a bit to do with it and if you are getting a new exhaust made a new cat wont add a lot to it anyway and the chances are now the original cat maybe tired ;)
Also just a tip is give it a couple of hundred miles before you judge the exhaust note as it will change when it starts to coke up :)

Any new exhaust can sound "tinny" when new and as carbon builds up inside of it the sound loses the tinnyness and the "real" sounds is heard.

Tony.
