Now that could have been really nasty!!I was filing up at the motorway services yesterday when an artic drove off with the fuel nozzle still attached. I watched in horror expecting it to break free and recoil through my windscreen. But he stopped in time. The rubber fuel line was stretched beyond belief.
He destroyed the fuel pump. But what made me laugh and re the initial picture was when he got out to inspect it he gave it a kick and a shove to try and bend it back into shape. Before looking as if he was going to do a runner. So I got hold of him and told him he was reporting it inside at the pay desk. He didn't have a clue what I was saying. Despite driving a British Gypsum, British registered wagon.
By a strange twist of fate the visiting pump engineer was already on site and quickly acted to isolate it and secure it. And to detain the driver.
I got a picture from a safe distance so not great and doesn't really show just how much damage was done.

I heard the conversation - “Not sure if you wanted it, but, I’ve lowered the suspension for you
“How on earth does someone forget to remove the fuel line?!? Was the driver drunk? Brain addled with drugs? What an idiot! Glad there was no serious damage as there could have been.I was filing up at the motorway services yesterday when an artic drove off with the fuel nozzle still attached. I think on trucks you can lock the trigger and walk away while it fills. As you could many years ago for cars. How on earth does someone forget to remove the fuel line?!? Was the driver drunk? Brain addled with drugs? What an idiot! Glad there was no serious damage as there could have been.
Most pumps have the locking system disabled due to overflows. A driver for British Gypsum wouldn't need to be doing runner as they run with fuel cards. He will have forgotten to remove the nozzle. Stupid as it is I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose.I think on trucks you can lock the trigger and walk away while it fills. As you could many years ago for cars.
I suspect he was doing one about loosing his job if he came forward and was plain bemused with the language barrier.
Runner from the damage he did after paying. Not a runner where he didn't pay. The counter staff told me they had to stop him. I'm sure the original incident was an accident though. Most pumps have the locking system disabled due to overflows. Nice to know how professional and attentive the driver was. Am sure he's equally good at doing the driving bit. Scary!Runner from the damage he did after paying. Not a runner where he didn't pay. The counter staff told me they had to stop him. I'm sure the original incident was an accident though.
Happens a lot here. The " idiot" pretty much covers it...How on earth does someone forget to remove the fuel line?!? Was the driver drunk? Brain addled with drugs? What an idiot! Glad there was no serious damage as there could have been.
