Each to their own but contrary to your statement earlier there are not lots of 3.0's about at all. There are 7 for sale on Autotrader nationally, 1 on pistonheads and 6 on ebay and that's without checking for duplicates. So if it was me and I really wanted a nice 3.0 I would be looking at every...
I've just read through the comments and I don't think this has been mentioned. My 1.9 developed over time a rough idle issue and it was cutting out and very down on power, almost like limp home mode but you could tell it was not electronically induced.
For me it was the crank case breather...
You can get a blockage in the pipe to and from the CCV and a blockage in the valve itself. Looks like it might have cleared itself in which case you are in luck!
Yeah I'm literally waiting for the call to tell me my tracking is finished as it's away getting the proper job done, weights and all. It's been a painful process in the pursuit of cost effective repairs. My car has been either off the road or borderline un-driveable for about the past two and a...
I got it done by a local mechanic at mates rates I'm afraid so my pricing would not be representative! However I can tell you the mechanic that did it was particularly good at his job and he did the whole lot, CCV and rocker cover in less than 4 hours. That was just on my driveway working out of...
I don't think the Falken FK452 is still in production. Had those on my 328Ci and my Cooper S easily 5 years ago. Falkens are generally a decent tyre for the price but they are a little firm. The only tyre I've had experience with recently is the new Khumo sport tyre. Had a set of 4 on my project...
I had similar issues on my 3.0. I've added a photo of the parts I ordered from BMW and I probably could have got them cheaper elsewhere but I just wanted it done and done right because my car was drinking oil at an alarming rate and I didn't want to cause potentially more expensive problems! My...
My advice to you would be to buy a really nice 1.9 16v with your £1500 rather than a ratty 2.2. A 1.9 in top condition will be going faster than a 2.2 with a cloud of black smoke coming out the back of it!
I've had an SLK 230 Kompressor in silver with red leather. It was actually a really lovely car and I did really like it but it's not a Z3 or Z4 by a long shot. It's a great car, it's just not a great sports car if that makes sense. Lovely to drive and comfortable, fast as well to be fair to it...
So, got all my shocks the other day. Mechanic fitting them today and the last one they came to do on the back was a shock absorber for a Mercedes SLK in the box for a Z3
Not best pleased!!
My 1997 1.9 did not have traction control. It was a fairly base spec to be fair to it.
I did find on the cheap tyres that I used to get a bit of inside wheel spin during spirited driving but when I put the sport wheels on it sorted it completely.
I hope this isn't just me that has experienced this, or that I'm dreaming it.
But a number of times in recent past I've had people use their windscreen washer jets for what I believe is the sole purpose to try and spray into my car with the roof down? Obviously this doesn't work! As you know if...
I have a 3.0 and 2.8 at the moment. The 3.0 is faster flat out but it's difficult to tell them apart performance wise 90% of the time. If anything the 2.8 has more low down power.
Had a 1.9 16v first and to be fair that was nippy but you found the limits of it's performance pretty quick, that...
@Eddie Zedder took a little longer than planned but have measured up my 3.0 and I can dispel the myth that all 3.0's have sport suspension. My ride height measurements are consistent with standard suspension. My car is an early 3.0 before they actually had a sport (2000). It's been specced with...
To add the problems of selecting a brand is not every manufacturer is consistent. So for example I've just had Avon's fitted to my girlfriends RAV4 and they have glowing reviews. It's a brand new tyre out this year and I have to say I'm super impressed. However I haven't seen any information on...
