Not at all Colin, it was an eBay purchase. Said it was in the UK but from the number of days it took to come I'm not so sure but either way it came and I wasn't in any hurry. The seller is rcmodel102, current item number is 271520430270. Check it out mate.
Thanks Tony, much appreciated.

I had a good look around and decided on EBAY item number 191255913136 instead. If it's anything like, I'll get another for my other car or try to find another mount & power lead to swap it between the two.

This one is definitely coming from the Far East so it will be a few weeks before I see it. I'll let you know how it performs.

Cheers,

Colin.

Part of the reason I got the one I did was you can get spare mount ( GPS or NOT) and power leads.:)

I have been keeping an eye on this model for some time. Another member got one and hard wired the base it into the console light. The unit itself can slide off the base at any time for security reasons and taking photos. They have dropped in price! They are small, and video quality id true HD. Nice units they are. :)

We've got a dash camera, Tony, me!!! I took 3 x 5 mins worth of hair pin bends going through the Pyrenees last week, my arms ached like crazy, but we got some good runs of film, even though the dashboard features quite prominently in one of them!!!:DSandy
Pauline is my dash camera - her arms ached as well. Are you going to make the vids available for us all to enjoy Sandy?

Well here's how I fitted my Dashcam.
1. I mounted the camera behind the rear view mirror as is standard practice the keep it out of the drivers eye line. An added benefit of my black sun strip means that the camera is virtually invisible from outside the car.
2. To run the power cable from the camera around the top of the windscreen required it to locate under the screen trim - problem - cable too thin to stay tucked up under the trim. Solution - get a 12" length of screen wash tube and split it down the side( best to spiral the cut rather than a straight cut as this keeps the cable inside the washer tube better) When you get to the edge of the screen follow the ridge of the trim round the pillar trim, then lift the edge of the rubber seal and tuck the cable behind the edge all the way to the bottom. Route the cable behind the trim beneath the glove box a towards the cig lighter port in the console. This is a temporary measure as you need an ignition fed supply for automatic use of the camera. Mine will be connected into the ignition fed live to my radio as soon as I can get it done.
3. This camera is HD, has GPS and kph available if you want to use it. It comes with a download software for a GPS player which plays your selected items alongside the GPS map of the location. I've found that my Windows media player works best for playing, copying and saving files to be honest. It comes with a fairly easy to read (Chinese translation) manual, a power lead, USB lead and a spare sticky pad for the windscreen mount.
You can also buy spare mounts either with GPS or not and power cables, so I plan to fit my other car with these so that I can simply swap the camera between the cars, as and when.
4. I hope this may be of use to some of you guys and if I've missed anything or you want more info just yell.

Cheers, Tony.
p.s. Sandy these are a lot easier on the arms, I know, I've been the "camera man" in Florida for years.:)

Yes, Mint, we will when we come back from the Lakes, we will do a thread for our pics, will need help to remind us how to put a video on at the time. We have had a lot of trouble with laptops & P C World, but have yet another new one now to master,
Mike & Sandy

Hi Tony, here is what I did to get my rear dash cam mounted.
After talking to Tony I used his idea with clear washer pipe to get rear cam extension wire round passenger side windscreen, tucked thin wire on its own under trim all the way to the enclosure surrounding the roll bars. This is where I had to dismantle the bars plus the stowage box to feed and keep the wire hidden to exit the bottom of the outside roll bar (access clip-in plastic plate which is push fit from the top, ease out with large flat head screw driver) then feed wire from rear cam down inside clear tube to joiner on extention, the joiner was then hidden inside roll bar bottom cover via plastic access cover plate which houses the seat belt mech and wire was protected by useing washer tubing.(so now I can remove plastic cover, pull joiner and excess wire out to disconect joiner which will allow me to remove cam when doing maintenance). Now I had the cam to mount onto the Perspex screen which meant I would probably have to drill the roll bar to get the wire unseen to cam, this was where I decided it wouldn't be safe to drill holes in rollover bar and that the wire will just have to be seen.
As you should be able to see in the pics the wire to the cam is trapped between the perpex and the bar and because it's inside the clear tubing it really is hard to see and my mechanic friend said that he had to examin close up to see it. Look at the pics and you'll see what I mean. The cam is mounted on the outside surface central between the bars and will be protected by the thickness of the bar in the event of branch or bush protruding into passenger comp when top down driving, study the pics and get back to me if you want more.

Should have taken pics as I worked but when I'm so into doing something on the Z I completly forget about everything else, like picking up the misses from the town with my daughter leaving my phone on kitchen top being charged, "why didn't you answer your phone" "didn't hear it cos the engine was running and there's a hole in the exhaust" " where was your phone" "under the car just where the hole is, it must have droped out my pocket while I was trying to fix the hole". "Bit convenient no?" " well at least I didn't leave it on the kitchen top getting charged did I ", that's when I blew it. Made myself scrambled egg for dinner.

PS; Tony the rear cam is not working at the moment although it worked before I done permanent install, think I may have conection problem after being heavy handed when getting tired. Try some options next time I go round to my garage. Roy.

Nice job Roy, looks very nice. Looking forwards to seeing some of front camera footage. I have only done mine on the PC. and uploaded it to YouTube, never tried with my iPad, only to watch it via YouTube. Can upload some of our trips around Orlando which we filmed with a better "quality" camera if you would like to compare?

Tony.

Ok Tony, but I think this time round it's so important to get footage out that I'll be posting micro card to Gaz, but might just pop down to town first, try and buy a new card reader that will work with my iPad, that's if they do one. Off to bed now, having a early night for a change. Roy

I have a forward facing camera in my cab. There almost expected now in lorry's by the insurers. They have saved many a drivers job since they started as there regularly used as evidence in crash situations. The police ALWAYS blame the lorry driver until proved otherwise. We now have the ammo to state otherwise! Very very long overdue in my book! Hooorar to the forward facing camera!!

Dave, don't you think it's just as important to guard your rear( with cam) as you never know who's going to bang you up the rear.:p So to speak.=))

Yeah, you ask Jamezee, he'll tell you.:( It certainly relieves the watching intently in the rear view mirror.

My late brother, bless him, was a trucker too in fact if Dave had a touch of red in his hair he reminds me of our Martin.
