It all generally comes down to what people think they will be missing, and how much it bothers you when changing your habits. Doesn't actually take much will power to make significant changes in your lifestyle, just need that initial push whatever it is. My meat consumption is probably the lowest it's ever been, but that's mainly down to cutting out processed foods almost entirely - no sandwiches/pies from the vending van which visits our office daily for example. I still have the full English in a roll on a Saturday morning and a full roast on a Sunday- probably habit more than desire these days. Being aware of what you eat, and the effect it has on your body can only be a positive thing.
For all the changes I've made in my eating habits, and a concerted effort of regular exercise I'm in the best shape I've ever felt in my life at 47. It's a tough sell to others though, and as you've seen in this thread the reaction you've got is probably exactly what I assumed it would be when I saw you post it! The only way you will find out if it makes a difference is to crack on with it and see - and there will become a time when it's normal and just what you do. There are enough on here who will support and listen intently to your journey!
