What’s this part?

Hi all, working on my M44 1.9 changing the thermostat, under the plastic housing over the radiator is an insulated hose running from one side to the other. I need to replace this also, any clue what it is?

It is the air intake pipe that goes from the intake behind the right hand side head light to the air box on the left hand side of the car. It is insulated to try and stop the intake air from getting hot from the radiator or engine.

Thank you Murray, so as such I could replace the broken part with a piece of pipe and it would have a negligible impact on running?

Yes you can replace it with a piece of pipe. If it was me, I would include some insulation in the redesign.
