Thats strange it costs around £55 from BMW. I’ve done 4 gearbox’s this year.

Edit: these are the parts you need.

BMW ZF Gearbox Internals

23117525048 – 3x Pin Kit

07119937227 – 3x Sealing cap

23117542726 – 2x Pin Bushing Kit

23311224849 – 1x Reverse Gear Pin

23317502165 - 1x 5th Gear Pin
That’s great. Thanks for clarifying. I’m picking some bits up from bmw Thursday so I’ll ask them to check then.

This project is now coming to an end and it’s been so nice to work on. We’ve finished the final tasks first being making new rear brake lines.

Not an exciting photo but I use the old rear lines as templates and copy the shape using a pipe bender. These look like they’ve been made by hand before, the lines weren’t as crisp as normal.

re fitted the spare wheel and shinny new carrier.

next was a full bleed of the system. I go round twice to be sure.

another little job was the aerial grommet now fully working.

Another request was a full service, James told
me the plugs were 12 years old but had only covered around 10k miles. Old plugs don’t look that bad at all.

Next was to sort the main oil leak, the rocker cover gasket was starting to weep front and back. Rocker cover off and the old gasket is like a biscuit.

With some fresh 6.5L of oil it was time to reset the oil lights and the brake fluid inspection light.

Would be rude not to give the engine bay a little detail.

What a great job, cant wait to get mine done now, genuinely excited.

Great to see inside the engine as well, BMW's are so nicely made.

So today it was wheels down and a test drive. Always nerve racking after you’ve removed nearly every single nut n bolt over a two week period.

So firstly I went over the rumble strips a couple of times, these are really harsh and quickly let you know if anything’s loose or not done up enough. Next stop a quick photo in front of the Hawker Hunter, nice little loop this.

Next I headed down to my local wheel alignment centre.Old alignment will be all over the place due to new bushes and tie rod ends.

Now all in sync. Remember the Z3 rear end is fixed, this shows the rear being identical both sides. That’s a good sign.

She’s been a pleasure to work on. Bet James won’t get much sleep tonight, it don’t matter how old you are you still get excited for cars :)
